Project N.A.S.A Astronaut Amirah

Been helping Amirah for the past few weeks on her space project. Throughout this semester Amirah has been learning about the solar system and things in outer space. All grade 1/2 students are to present their space project by the end of the term. They can make either information posters, power point presentations or make a space model. We decided to choose the later because it is much more interesting and fun to make. After much thought (includes hours of googling for ideas on the internet), 'Men landed on the Moon' theme came out top of the list (also because competitive mom think that 'mesti takde orang lain nyer buat idea ni' ..hehhe).

So we started our project by making 'Moon' and 'Earth' using paper mashe technique. Gradually working on the base of our project which is a black paper covered shoe box with glittering stars and planets. After pasting the 'Moon' to the base and hanging the 'Earth', we added the rocket and two odd looking Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin clay models. Papa came out with a last minute idea to 'umphh' things up, by adding a torchlight to create the illusion of the sunlight.

After 2 weeks of sneaking time to do the project while 'helpful' little brother asleep, we finally finished it. Amirah is so happy and proud with her project (so am i ..hehehe ...).

Cerita awal tahun ...

Yesterday was Amirah's first day of school. Unlike back home in Malaysia, sekolah kat sini start end of January. Maybe kasik budak2 cuti lebih sikit kot. Amirah dah grade one sekarang. Excited plus nervous nak pegi sekolah. Excited sebab dah lama tak jumpa kawan2... and dah boring duduk kat rumah...and nervous sebab new grade means new teacher and also new set of friends. Her new classmates are not the same as her Prep friends last year. They mixed the class so that the kids get to know new friends. Amirah insisted to pick some flowers from my little garden nak kasik kat cikgu baru dia.. hmm.. good bodek strategy :P

On a sad note, my Columbian neighbour had moved to Canberra last week. Amirah yang paling sedih because dah takde kawan2 sebelah rumah yang boleh main petang2. On a sad note no. 2, favorite uncle and auntie Amirah and Taufiq kat sini dah balik Malaysia for good. Terisak-isak Amirah nangis kat airport tengok auntie Nurlin and uncle Saiful dia balik. Taufiq still tak faham apa2 lagi.. when asked, 'Where's Uncle Saiful and Auntie Nurlin?' he will said sambil depa tangan imitate aeroplane .. 'Uncle Auntie aeroplane'. Both of them have been a very good friend to our family, in fact dah terasa macam family pun. They arrived here at Melbourne just few hours earlier than us. Duduk kat Malaysia Hall sama2.. carik rumah sama2 and kebetulan dapat rumah close to each other. They saw Amirah and Taufiq grew up.. especially Taufiq, dari 4 months old sampai la boleh berlari sekarang .. They have been a good influence in my kids life.. so sangat2 terasa kehilangan. Tak pe, jumpa lagi di Malaysia nanti...

Back to good news, my sis got engaged last two weeks. Congratulation to her and her fiance. Selamat menempuh alam pening kepala preparation for the wedding..

Lastly, Happy Birthday to Abah and Mama. Both were born in January. Semoga sentiasa sihat dan dirahmati Allah selalu.
